One of our favourite beauty brands, Kind Collective recently conducted a survey, which revealed, with no surprise to us, that kindness is one of Australia's most defining traits and is regarded as one of the most important qualities people look for in other people. With February 17 marking Random Acts of Kindness Day we thought we would share with you how you can bring a little bit more kindness to the people around you with the help of former Australian of the Year and founder of Kindness Factory, Kath Koschel, who has kindly shared her advice...
Start with yourself – the first rule of kindness is to be kind to yourself. Start there, and the rest will follow naturally.
Start with kids – teaching children basic kindness early helps instil lifelong behaviours. It’s a beautiful reminder that kindness matters, and we need to practice it every day.
Small daily acts – hold the door, give a genuine compliment, or reach out to someone who may need support; extend to larger gestures, like lending your car or helping older people with shopping.
Share online – use your social channels to spread positive messages, share uplifting stories, or give shout-outs to others doing good.
Volunteer or donate – contribute your time, skills, or resources to local charities, shelters, or community initiatives.
